Newham Rocks

Art Showcases are part of XLP's work. 'Newham Rocks' is a showcase of existing rock bands from schools and youth groups in the borough, giving the bands experience into all that goes into preparing for a performance. 

Why?

Jesus often went to those on the edges of society - prostitutes, tax collectors.  We need to do the same.

Youth are very tribal when it comes to music; their identity is strongly linked to their taste eg  

r n b, rap, rock, etc.

There are churches in Newham who do a great job in providing for those who like gospel and

r n b, but there is nothing for those who like rock.  They are probably a minority, but a sizeable one.

'Newham Rocks' might:

• surprise them, because they think that 'church isn't for people like us'; they think they are frowned on - "the Devil's music"
• help our church kids who like this kind of music to reach out to their friends

It will also:

• give them a chance to shine
• build confidence
• build relationships
