24/7 Prayer
Churches in Newham joined together for 24 hours of continuous prayer at Plaistow Christian Church on Tuesday 6 February. This is part of ‘A year for London’.
In 2007, ‘A year for London’, churches in London are signing up to host a day (24 hours) of prayer. The Church in London is standing together to raise up a prayer of "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done". Different churches drawn from London's many boroughs and ethnic backgrounds are getting involved and are partnering together to see our city change.
Maggie Merriweather reports on Tuesday’s prayer:
“We had a good time of prayer for the Borough.
God helped us to identify ongoing issues. We prayed peace, security, unity and healing into these areas.
We read in Revelation and prayed for revelation for the world and the church. We prayed that God would bring everything into the light – both good and bad, to move us from fear to faith and holiness.
We understood submission to God’s laws will give this nation rest. We prayed that the nations in Newham, both migrant and indigenous, will truly find rest in Jesus.
We identified strongholds of negatitive beliefs. Those enslaved by these beliefs need witnesses, the bringing of rest, healing and revelation through a revived church. We saw the need for believers with the spirit of Joshua and Caleb.
We were again reminded of John 13:34-35 and the need to love one another, and renewing our first love.
Then we asked God to let Christian voices be heard in the World.
We were very pleased that so many people from Plaistow gave their support (including Latimer, Plaistow Church and Church in Progress) came at such short notice. A significant number gathered in the evening, and we covered Christians (teachers and pupils) in schools, and the general increase in secularism which is putting a great deal of pressure on all faith groups.”
