Spring 09 Report
The aim of ‘Faith in Schools’ is for every child in Newham’s primary schools to have the opportunity to meet, in their Religious Education lessons, local Christians and discover what it means to be a Christian in the 21st century.
During the Spring term we visited schools teaching RE and took part in the ‘Stratford Easter Experience’.

It is quite a privilege to visit different year groups in Newham’s schools to teach about Easter, as despite Easter being the most important Christian festival, it is currently only taught in year 4 (8-9 yrs olds) classes in Newham’s primary schools.

Faith in Schools also visited 15 classes in primary schools across the borough delivering RE lessons on Easter. In Reception and Year 1 classes we used an Easter Godly/Spirited Play story box to encourage the children to wonder about different aspects of the Easter story. In some year 1 and 2 classes pupils acted out the Easter story. In year 3, pupils looked at the meaning behind the Christian use of the cross, and identified different crosses from around the world. Year 4 pupils explored how Christians around the world celebrate Easter.
